SOWING
Sowing is a critical step that determines the yield of a crop. Soybeans are sensitive seeds and must be sown at the right depth, at the right time and in a population that will allow them to develop optimally.
Here are a few tips to get your season off to a good start.
In general, the ideal depth for sowing is between 2.5 to 4 centimeters (1 to 1.5 inches).
To adjust your seeder, there are several methods. We recommend this one:
First, find an unpaved place in a yard. Roll the seeder in the working position, just enough to see the grains on top. Roll for a distance of 10 to 20 meters at the same speed as if you were driving in the field. Then, count the number of grains per linear meter. Make an average length of 3 to 4 meters on several units.
Consider that in the field, there will be 5 to 10% less seeds sown due to the skidding of the seeder.
The population is determined according to 6 factors: the variety, the date of sowing, the space between rows, the type of soil, the history of diseases and soil fertility.
Feel free to contact your Ceresco representative if you have any questions about the right population, if you need help calibrating your seeder or any other issue.
