WHAT IS A GMO?

Based on the definition of the Commission de l’éthique de la science et de la technologie du Québec, a genetically-modified organism (GMO) is “a micro-organism, plant or animal whose genetic material has been altered by humans to give it characteristics that it did not have before or already has but at a level deemed insufficient in its natural state, or to remove or mitigate specific characteristics deemed undesirable”.

Hence, a GMO is a living being whose genetic material has been specifically altered using the method called transgenesis.

NON-GMO

Ceresco‘s soy is always grown in Non-GMO soil. It never comes in contact with other altered plants. At harvest, Ceresco conducts very rigorous GMO detection tests before accepting soybeans. Soybeans not meeting Ceresco or Canadian standards are automatically rejected or sold for animal consumption. Those standards are among the most stringent in the world with regard to Non-GMO IP soybean culture.
